What a screen shows when there is no data to display yet — the first-run view of a list, inbox, or dashboard before the user has done anything.

Empty states are the most-seen screens of a product’s most important week, and the last screens anyone designs. The bar isn’t a charming illustration — it’s an answer to “what should I do first?” One action, not three.
